Pre-Grade 5 Foundation
Most students don’t need to work methodically through all the lower ABRSM theory grades (1–4). In fact, it’s often unnecessary — and can risk turning an enjoyable subject into a chore. What matters is a solid grasp of the essentials before moving on to Grade 5, which is where this short foundation course comes in.
Not every student needs a separate foundation course before Grade 5, but for some it can be a helpful way to build confidence. By the time students reach around Grade 4 or 5 on an instrument, most will already have absorbed the basics of music theory. However, others may want to take time to go over the fundamentals more carefully.
